At last...the good, the bad and the ugly! 2002

Enjoyed very much your 'honest' approach to reviewing - no punches pulled here. But why oh why are all your Italian reviews so negative. I agree but must it be so - surely there's a good Italian in London?
Metro Pizza, 64 Battersea Row. +44 (020) 7228 3812: best REAL Italian food I've had in London. Nearly as good as it Italy. Very noisy and difficult to get in (maybe I shouldn't reccommend it!).
Those of us in a hurry and wanting to know what's historic and what isn't has to plough through ALL of your reviews to get the nitty-gritty. Either mark flattering or non-flattering in bold or opt for some kind of symbol or summing-up phrase. PLEASE
congokid: I set up the site because I like to write about restaurants. A symbol or points based system kind of defeats that purpose!

If you liked Cafe Naz (Brick Lane), then try Le Taj (about 50 meters further down towards Bethnal Green) - simple but smart interior, stylish light new-wave Bengali cooking with distinctive fresh flavours, & superior to Naz!
In the same area - Cafe Spice Namaste is, of course, complete crap (& always has been), despite rave reviews from Indian "tyro's".
Otherwise, The Laxshmi makes good Shami Kebabs & decent standard curries (Commercial Rd., roughly near Whitchapel Tube).
If you ever get out as far as Sheen SW14, be sure to try Lal Barg on Upper Richmond Rd. (near No's. 440-450);- traditional curries, but with quality & style (beware of authentic "Korma", ie often volcanic!).

Went to & enjoyed many of the places you recommended on your site. One detail was missing or at least I missed it if it's there. The 7th Floor of theTate Modern is only open for dinner on weekends. Not during the week. We did manage to have lunch and you are quite right, the view and the food are worth standing in line for.

Paolo Restaurant Bar Contemporary Italian, 16 Percy Street - London W1 020 7637 9900 - I have recently visited a new restaurant in Fitzrovia. Apparently they have a well known chef. They do home-made pasta amongst the rest, and everything (myself and my partner) tried was a joy for our taste buds! Exceptional value for money, good service, fresh decor. Definitely worth a visit.

We read your review of Chives some time ago and then we saw it advertised in Tatler we were intrigued by the chef's name - Dino Kremmos - so when we were passing at lunch time last week and they were open, we decided to try it out. Thank you for recommending it because we had a really good time. We tried the set menu and I had 2 courses for 12.50 and my partner had 3 courses for 13.50. The food was lovely and we tried the house wine which was a crisp Bourgandine for only 12. I had the warm summer pea soup with creme fraiche and its just right for an English summer, and my partner had a Roquefort and chicory salad. I tried it - it was delicious and I really liked the mustard dressing. I followed with the salmon Nicoise which was a good combination of flavours and my partner had roast cod wrapped in pancetta with a saffron broth. We were both reassured by the quality of the dishes and so my partner ordered the lemon tart with greek yoghourt. It was tangy and smooth and altogether wonderful. I had no room for a dessert of my own but will make sure I have one next time. The service was very good indeed and the staff made us feel very relaxed - they told us they have a Sunday lunch special but we're going to go after work one day next week and try the a la carte. Thank you again for your recommendation.

Gastro! This is a fab restaurant and you should review it. It only opened seven months ago and it already has many regular customers. The only trouble is because of Greenwich council closing traffic up Gastro's road the owner Maurice may have to close. Maurice is a real character, full of life and fun and he is running the entire place - he's chef, bar man, manager, accountant, cleaner etc etc. Before the road closed he had a mother's day for women and babies to meet every wednesday, b-b-q's because there is a huge patio garden (which you don't find in London) and so on.
Congokid: Thanks for the heads up - but please don't send huge jpegs with your messages! I haven't managed to get to Gastro yet. Time Out has given it a good review, but also advises to bring cash as cards aren't accepted.

I have just discovered your "congokid" website. I wish I'd seen it earlier, it would have spared us several underpar, overpriced meals in London.
