Note that many of the following sites, being fashion oriented, are afflicted with the curse of Flash and can be a right pain to view
Traditional City tailoring
  • Dege & Skinner - Savile Row tailoring
  • TM Lewin - my favourite shirt maker, also does matching ties and cufflinks, and some branches now do suits, socks, etc. Several outlets around town and mail order
  • Thomas Pink - shirt maker and matching accessories, several outlets
  • Ozwald Boateng - high fashion bespoke tailoring with catwalk aspirations near Savile Row
  • Kilgour French Stanbury - more Savile Row tailoring
  • Richard James - tailoring
  • Tim Little - shoemaker on the King's Road
  • Hackett - essential British kit
  • Philip L Lyons - craftsmen - ladies' and gents' tailors for bespoke custom made suits in London
  • James & James - bespoke suits from Savile Row
  • Henry Poole & Co - maker of bespoke suits from Savile Row, home of London's fine tailoring, since 1806
  • 40 Savile Row - tailor and shirtmaker
  • Charles Tyrwhit - city shirts and cufflinks - apparently on permanent sale
  • Shoes International - stockists of a range of British and international shoes, including Grenson (a pair that I bought in 1982 are still very wearable). Not sure how you go about ensuring a proper fit over the internet, though
Fashion
  • R Soles - kickin' cool cowboy boots on the King's Road
  • Nastidesigns - t-shirts with tart art from telephone boxes
  • Kenneth Cole - outlets on the King's Road and Sloane Street
  • French Connection - outlets fcuking everywhere, but one of my favourite places
  • Duffer of St George - a past favourite but went a bit clubby for my taste (you might say I grew up)
  • Next - high street retailer and mail order
  • Nicole Farhi - outlet in Sloane Street as well as concessions in major department stores
  • Paul Smith - sexy, modern British design, main outlet in Floral Street, Covent Garden
  • Reiss - I've always thought clothes here were non-descript. Don't know why
  • Shelly's - high street shoe chain. Used to be famous for trendy styles done cheap, but same price as elsewhere now
  • Cecil Gee - high street menswear retailer, includes Moss Bros and Blazer brands also with own store chains
  • Carhartt - London branch of this US retailer is in Covent Garden
  • Diesel - trendy togs, flagship store in Covent Garden, also on King's Road
  • Jones - alas, though this high price high fashion temple in Covent Garden has been around for ages, the website is still coming soon
  • Maharishi - mens and womens wear and what seems to be artwork, but not much in the way of photos of clothes
  • Office - shoes galore in this high street chain
  • Burton menswear - national chain dragging itself away from its deeply unfashionable roots
  • Ted Baker - more trendy clobber. Stores in Covent Garden and King's Road
  • Top Man - chain with some interesting lines. Large store at Oxford Circus
  • Marks & Spencer - said to be the most popular stores in the UK for underwear. Flagship store near Marble Arch, and now food stores nearly everywheretop of page
